Being friends with those of different races will then make you curious to find out about their cultures and beliefs. One example would be when having a Malay friend. When having a Malay friend, one should know how they are not allowed to eat pork due to their culture practices. By knowing this, it is a sign of respect towards their culture. Another contributing factor towards gaining knowledge by living in a diverse society includes first hand knowledge and the experience of being able to watch it. In Singapore when the Hindus celebrate Thaipusam, the male Hindus are seen carrying kavadis. Kavadis are physical burdens to male devotees from the Hindu society. A kavadi is of wood or steel form, made into two semi circles forming a cross-like structure bent over the devotee’s shoulders. Individuals then gain the opportunity to question friends of the Hindu race to find out more about this festival. Therefore living in a diverse society and being able to have the exposure allows individuals to experience different things outside of what they are normally accustomed
