For example, the other residents of the kangaroo house will be able to provide a safety net when their husband of wife passes away. The elderly will thus feel less alone and will, in comparison to living alone, not experience a black hole of loneliness after the decease. To continue, it will make them feel more safe as well. Kangaroo housing diminishes the risk of housebreaking, since there is someone around the house at most times. Furthermore, the elderly can stay longer in their familiar surroundings. In the United Kingdom, 20% of the elderly are in contact with their family, friends and neighbours less than once a week. (“Community 2.0: is cohousing the future of urban design?”, n.d.) Since there will always be someone around in a kangaroo house, they will feel less alone and they will be more in contact with their beloved ones.
To summarize, kangaroo housing has a lot of advantages for both parties. The financial aspect is more profitable, which will give both sides more possibilities, it makes life easier for young, starting families because they can count more on the help of their parents and they can take better care of them when needed and the quality of life of the elderly will improve because they are more in contact with their beloved
