Watching movies has become a favorite past time for many people. Especially in small towns where there is not much to do on the weekends or during the week. What it all comes down to is where do you want to watch a movie at? Why not watch a movie at home? Is the theater really your best bet? Why spend time driving to a theater to pay a ton of money on your ticket and a small wimpy bag of popcorn that is too buttery only to end up having to sit behind a loud group of obnoxious people? All of this when you could be in the comfort of your own home watching Netflix with people you actually want to be around and not just that, you could also just drive to your local dollar tree and spend $1 on a box of popcorn with 5 bags in it. For instance, the prices of tickets and food in the theater are insane! If you’re going as a family to the theater you are really looking to spend a fortune. According to an article written by the Daily Mail ticket prices have gone up by 26% since 2007! Ticket prices are not the only thing expensive about going to the theater though. Another thing that is expensive is the cost for your snacks! According to an article in Time magazine, 85% of the theater profit comes from the concession stand! A small box of M&Ms can cost up to $5! Another one of the main disadvantages is the distractions. In the theater, you have parents who bring their loud, crying kids. If you’re close enough to one of these kids you will eventually hear the kid ask, “What happened?” sometime during the movie. It never fails. But it’s not just the kids that make all the noise, it is the teenagers too! No doubt, when you go to the theater there will always be that one big group of friends who cannot just be quiet. There is absolutely no need for that! As long as you have a television at home you are good to go! Also, if you’re at home watching a movie you’re in control of the volume. No one likes the loud scary noises in scary movies that you can’t avoid in the theater but if you’re at home you can put the volume down and back up whenever you please! And what comes with being in control of the volume comes the control of the pause button! If you are in the theater and have to go use the restroom or get you a snack, no one is going to pause the movie just for you. At home you have the liberty to do whatever you want! If you want to snuggle up in bed with your dog to watch a movie who is going to stop you? But again the biggest difference is the money! The average cost of renting a movie is $3 and you could run to your local Dollar Tree and spend $5 on a ton of candy. But if you go to the theater you best be prepared to spend at least $15 on just snacks alone! But really, what can beat watching a movie in your pajamas, spread out on your couch under a nice warm blanket, eating whatever you already have in your fridge and with whoever you want? Absolutely nothing. Really there is to be no questions asked. Watching a movie at home definitely has its better benefits.
