Well known disadvantages of eminent domain are landowners get land taken away against their will, fair compensation is not always fair, and every state has different ways that the law works. Landowners who either inherited, bought, or leased their land can get their land they have put many hours into, taken away whether they like it or not. Though the Fifth Amendment says “with payment of fair compensation”, what the government says is fair may not actually be a fair amount to the landowner. A major problem of eminent domain is every state has different rules and regulations for eminent domain, which makes it a very unorganized practice. The reason it is such a big problem is because most agriculturalists, or landowners as a whole, are having their land taking away from them out of nowhere. Farmers or ranchers have it the worst, because they have so much time, work, money, and effort put into getting their product to the best it can be. If they have their land taken away from them, then all they have worked for will be thrown away because they will no longer be able to use their land to produce. For this reason, I believe the regulations of eminent domain should be revised. I believe that the property owner should have an immediate choice of whether they want to keep their land or not, or at least something where the owner has some kind of say other then how much they get paid. In review, eminent domain has a rich history, there are an equal amount of advantages and disadvantages of eminent domain, and the process for eminent domain only seems difficult. To close, landowners today and in the past have been robbed of their land, this needs to be changed.
