With all of the negative aspects of cryptocurrency, it seems like it is a good way to throw away and lose money. On the other hand, there are some reasons why investing in digital currency is a good idea. Knowing that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are completely digital, consumers are able to transport it anywhere in the world. “In contrast to gold, Bitcoin is easily transportable and does not need to transit through international borders as currency” (Baron 8). Consumers will find it easier to manage and in making transactions overseas, they will not have to pay an exchange fee, thus making it more appealing. Completely digital currencies also help consumers on a security level in many ways. “[Individual] cryptocurrencies are digital …show more content…
However, there are some solutions that could be integrated in order to solve these problems. To solve the problem of intermediation, fully accredited institutions based on legislature need to be established. Once consumers see that a regulated financial intermediary is created, they will feel more confident in investing their time and money towards cryptocurrency, knowing that if something happened to funds, they would be protected. To reduce volatility, if more larger, well-known companies integrated Bitcoin as a method of payment, it would appeal to the general public and prompt them to invest and use cryptocurrencies. The day larger corporations, such as Amazon or Starbucks, begin accepting Bitcoin as a valid method of payment, the general public will be convinced that Bitcoin is “sellable” and holds value, considering that there large businesses are the pillars of commercial structure in today’s …show more content…
Drawbacks towards growth include instability, increased volatility, dependency on other currencies, legal infrastructure, and lack of trust. Advantages for growth include waived exchange fees, less chances of fraud, and unbounded exchange rates. While consumers may see an assortment of flaws with cryptocurrency, there are solutions that can help alleviate the detriments of digital currency, such as creating financial intermediaries, integrating virtual currencies as a method of payment in reputable companies, and using current technology to the consumer’s advantage. An explanation of how Bitcoin works is, “Each unit has an encrypted key which fits uniquely into a spot in the so-called blockchain. Every piece of bitcoin created has a unique spot on this blockchain. This special construction ensures security during transactions as well as prevents counterfeiting. Because of these security features, bitcoin removes an essential element that was thought to be necessary for every financial transaction: trust” (Melloy). Internet moguls, Winklevoss twins known for their association with Facebook are some of the biggest supporters of Bitcoin. They estimate Bitcoin market capitalization could go up to $400 billion or at least rival payment companies such as American Express, Visa, and MasterCard and believe that bitcoin has the capability to become better than, or even greater than those as an asset. A factor to consider in this Bitcoin hype is the fact that the Winklevoss twins have their asses on the line with Bitcoin because they are the huge backers behind the idea. Bitcoin has had some falters along the way, but the Winklevoss twins are doing their best to stabilize this new currency by building infrastructure that not only legitimize the currency but secure it at the same time. One of the major upsides to bit coinage is that, like gold, it can be used to hedge against inflation. The advantage that Bitcoin has over gold, according to Winklevoss twins, is that it…

Financial analysts think it foolish to intertwine gold into U.S. monetary policy because they ignore the facts. Fiat currency does have its advantages (mainly in assisting government and corporations). It also helps finance small business with loans and FDIC insurance in the event that the owners lose their bank savings. Social programs flourish, and so do struggling communities with government aid and taxpayer funding. But why devalue our money with unnecessary printing when we can strengthen it with a commodity that we already have? The United States Treasury Department holds 11,041,059,958.46$ in gold, enough to finance a return to the Bretton-Woods agreement. In addition, gold prices are strong and stable above 1,000$ per oz. That will keep the dollar’s purchasing power stable. The only obstacle that we would face prior to readopting the gold standard would be surmounting the national debt of 18,000,000,000,000$. We know the advantageous nature of gold, we’ve seen it throughout history and we’ve also experienced the economic decline of the fractional reserve banking system. The benefits include more value/less inflation, lower unemployment rate, and higher GDP. Under this system, there is less cash available to finance fraudulent wars and no chance for giant corporations like Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and Citi group to be bailed out due to their fraudulent practices. Purchasing power of the dollar will increase with time, the consumer price index will improve, and wages will correlate to the cost of living. You’re probably asking: “Why haven’t we returned the gold standard already?” It is because, fiat currency allows for indefinite credit expansion and inflation, all while placing the burden on taxpaying…

Fascist/totalitarian governments use propaganda for the sole purpose of promoting the view of the party in power. Propaganda is a method to control the media (newspaper, television, internet...) into a publication of biased information that would benefit a certain group/party. Examples of propaganda can be seen throughout history, it can be traced back to as early as the First World War. Opposing forces (the Allies and the Axis) put up countless propaganda posters across Europe and North America, encouraging its civilians to support and even join the force. Moreover, nowadays communist, fascist and totalitarian countries make use of propagandas as well. These governments use propagandas to keep its citizens from questioning the government/party and lead its citizens to become extreme nationalists.…

When prices levels rises, each of the unit of currency buys fewer goods and service. Inflation reflects a reduction in the purchasing influence per unit of money. A loss of real value of exchange and in unit of account within the economy will take place. Inflation can be both positive and negative; the negative is that it may lead to uncertainty in investments and savings. It can also lead to consumers hoarding out of concern that prices will continue to increase. The positive side of inflation is that it gives people the opportunity to spend and invest, if they do not, their money will not be worth anything in the future. “It's not that I’m Anti-China. I just think it’s ridiculous that we allow them to do what they're doing to this country, with the manipulation of the currency, that you write about and understand, and all of the other things that they do” (Trump). People will go to immeasurable amounts to have the upper hand in this world, especially when it involves money. What if we could eliminate the probability of one country having an advantage over all? There are always pros and cons to every system no matter which direction you may look at it. Both the idea of having the gold standard and not having our money backed by anything are two very shaky and solid ideas. The current system has no backing of any kind so prices are slanted more toward the government’s whim. This can make the economy more flexible in a hard pinch by just printing more money. The gold standard gives our money more solidarity because there is only so much gold in the world this limits the spending on pointless wars and keeps thing with in their means. The gold standard is the better of the two because it encourages healthy spending and saving habits. Or maybe even anti-matter?…

The world’s money was not anymore connected to anything of value besides the shared assumption that others would accept them in trade for really goods and services. As computers came into existence and was more rapidly used, the next step was made obvious and that was to remove the paper and clearly store the numbers in computers. More so than ever in today’s day and age, electronic transactions are the main activity for most transactions. Money has turned into being a pure distraction removed from anything of real value. Korten breaks it down to four developments that are fundamental to the transformation of today’s financial system. First off, the US has “financed its global expansion with dollars, many of which now show up on the balance sheets of foreign banks and branches of US banks.” Second according to Korten “the globalization and computerization formed the world’s financial markets into a single global system in which an individual at a computer terminal can maintain constant contact with price movements.” The third development is investment decisions that were previously made by numerous individuals are now condensed in relatively small amounts of professional investment managers. Lastly Korten states how investment…
