Following a rise of the contemporary consumer society in America in 1920s, the accompanying lifestyle choices have become aspired to and as a result have spread across the ocean to the rest of the world. Nevertheless, the origins of consumer society date back to 16th century; and the real development began following the industrial revolution, when higher production required swift and higher consumption and as a result an expanding middle and working class have transformed into consuming class, while previously only small elite enjoyed higher consumption pleasure (Goodwin et al., 2008; Ahuvia and Izberk-Bilgin, 2013). Freedom is an interesting concept. People tend to claim (in the United States especially) that we are free, but unfortunately, we are often blindly fooled into believing we have more rights than we truly do. Depending on one’s view of what the word free actually means, one could say that society really isn’t free at all. Dread Pirate Roberts—abbreviated as DPR—believed that society is actually allocated very little freedom; to restitute this, he created the Silk Road. Naturally, considering DPR’s very liberal view of freedom, he viewed drug laws as very dictatorial and arbitrary, so he did something about it.…

The Placement represents the initial entry of dirty money which is generated though deviant activities such as gambling, drug trafficking, murder and prostitution. This stage relieves the criminal of holding and guarding large amounts of cash as it places the money into the legitimate financial system. During this stage, the money launderers become more vulnerable to being caught by law enforcers. It allows crime to be done in many different ways for instance: The money could be packed into a suitcase and smuggled to a country as the launderer could easily avoid suspicion.…

With the increase of globalization activities and our worlds being more readily accessible at anytime from anywhere in the world, it is no surprise that illegal activities are piggy-backing the legal globalization activities and enjoying the ride. Drug traffickers have found ingenious ways to push their illegal drugs around the globe better than any nation trying to administer legal drugs. The war on drugs has only seemed to overload our prisons with small time dealers and users rather than the hardened criminals creating and moving the products in a global manner. With the trade being mostly a ghost operation, it has become a favored method of money laundering as well.…

While the US offers a relatively portable currency, a centralized authority, and slightly user controllable and secure form of money, Bitcoin, offers a higher form of portability, along with decentralization, and a fully controllable and secure form of digital currency. “Although it is still early for Bitcoin to become a widely accepted and implemented form of currency, it is increasingly likely that the future of Bitcoin is bright.
