hi, my dad had undergone big toe fusion around 6 months back. Fusion helps to relieve pain however, it can limit activity; as that joint cannot be bent.You will be unable to push off with the big toe when you take a step.But best of all is he can walk better now and pain is almost gone!!! Replacement for big toe is still fairly new. So be sure and go over the pros and cons with your surgeon to make certain you understand all the advantages and disadvantages of both procedures.
