Is Being Famous a Faustian Bargain?
In the play ‘Faustus’, the main character, Doctor Faustus made a deal with devil. Faustus was very knowledgeable but he wanted more, he wanted black magic. In order to get that he sold his soul to devil for 24 years in return for Mephastophilis as his servant. Faustus signs the contract in his blood and has second thoughts on what he just did. Faustus begins to learn new spells and uses his gift as entertainment for himself. When his contract with Lucifer comes to and end and they are about to take his soul Faustus begins to regret the deal he made. In the end the deal was not worth it to him.

In the play, Faustus would lose his soul after 24 years in order to get the gift of black magic and Mephastophilis. Faustus didn’t use the power for anything good or beneficial to him he used it as amusement for himself and that lead him to feel power he was searching for. He played jokes on the pope gaining his fame he also plays a joke on a knight at one of Charles V’s courts which he gains the knowledge that he can only be killed by Lucifer and that made him feel very powerful and that no one was more powerful than …show more content…
Becoming famous is almost everyone’s fantasy life (Morrow), its something one wants, they know exactly what comes with becoming famous. They know they will lose their privacy, along with stalkers, fans, but they also know they will get all the positive things that come with the deal. Fame isn’t all negative in the article “A Nasty Faustian Bargain” it states how fame has style, glamour, money, and attention (Morrow). Again as stated in the above paragraph the fame can give them power in a good way like Miley Cyrus or Angelina Jolie (they aren’t the only ones), Miley Cyrus has an organization called The Happy Hippie Foundation which fights against the homeless youth and the LGBT community. Miley Cyrus is not famous for her organization but her fame has helped the organization grow.
