Social psychology is a fascinating topic that has provided a great deal of research on how people conduct themselves in groups. Social psychologists are interested in how people impact and are impacted by other people, social settings, and social environments. In many cases, the results of several well-known experiments contradict how you would expect people to behave in social situations. Being a social psychologist is a job I would like to learn more about because I enjoy psychology in general. Social Psychology appeals to me because a psychology degree can open the door to multiple choices of careers. Social psychologists are highly educated individuals with a bachelor 's degree in psychology or a related field, along with a master 's or doctorate degree in social psychology, which is important because as Nelson Mandela once said Quote: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” While some employers may require a Ph.D., social psychologists can find work with just a master 's degree in the field. A program pertaining to social psychology incorporates education in current issues in psychology, social psychology, research design and social change. The required education for social psychology is a Master’s or Doctorate degree .Another requirement may be a state license. I plan to attend Wilkes University in the fall of 2016 to study Psychology as my major. I know that obtaining a Master’s Degree will not be easy but I will try to do my …show more content…
While other people might see disadvantages of working in this field as dealing with clients as “stressful and draining”, having an erratic schedule, setting up one’s own practice, dealing with billing issues, and constantly trying to bring in new business. Barriers that could keep me from reaching this goal are academic costs and challenges. I always fear that I won’t be able to pay for college and that it will interfere with my dream to become psychologist. Until the opportunity arrives for me to get my Masters Degree, I could get a part time job working for anyone that offers the experience in, literacy in working in a group environment, speaking and writing, and getting to know the human
