Teachers have a considerable influence on the progress of their students’ growth mindset. A study by Carol Dweck showed a variety of difficult questions to a group of ten-year-olds. When faced with these problems, multiple students shockingly stated “I love a challenge!” or “I was hoping that this would be more informative”. This showed investigators that these children understood that their abilities could be developed. This led a numerous amount of people to believe that schools should adopt the term “not yet” instead of “fail” so that the students could understand that they are on a grading curve. A case study was created to detect the influence of teacher’s usage language on fourth-grade students’ mindsets. The teacher would record the sessions for approximately 20 minutes. While transcribing these recordings, researchers made it evident that concerning which types of questions and feedback language used on a consistent basis. An example of this would be when the teacher asked “How could you figure that out?”, which challenges the students to go through a process of trial and error.(Rau 7) The results of this study have led to implications for shifting students' mindsets toward a growth mindset. Some believe that stress helps a growth mindset by motivating a person to persevere. When one is dealing with a great deal of stress it is easy for one to just give up and would rather accept failure. This is one of the many symptoms of a fixed mindset, if those had persisted and found a way to deal with their stress they would have a growth mindset. A study by psychologist in the university of Texas at Austin and the University of Rochester had discovered that a small shift in mindset could reduce teenagers’ social stress. If a student were to face their stressor and overcome it, their views on stress will change completely. They also discovered a simple, half-hour training, that could help teens cope better, become calmer, and even do better in school. A way to practice developing a growth mindset would be, when one finds themselves dwelling on a negative situation, ask yourself how it can contribute towards any personal goals. As Thomas Edison has once said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. This shows that if one doesn’t give into stress and look at it in a positive way, they will be able to overcome it and move on. Those who are easily stressed have a higher possibility to develop anxiety disorder, however developing a growth mindset will help those to overcome
