In ones own classroom, they can use their own personal reward system. In ones future kindergarten classroom, the teacher will use a combination of the advantageous aspects of different reward systems to fully benefit the students and the classroom as a whole. The system has two parts, which are the class as a whole and the class as individuals. As individuals, the students will receive points via a chart displayed in the classroom, a concept similar to the point system. The chart will have each student’s name on it and whenever a student displays a behavior that benefits the classroom, they receive a specific amount of points and whenever they do something that is not appropriate they will lose points. The teacher will update the chart as soon as behaviors are displayed in order to give the students instant feedback. At the end of each week, the students will calculate their points, and if they have a certain amount of points, they will get to choose the award they like such as a pencil or other school supplies. Ronald Morrish, a behavioral specialist, implores teachers to use rewards sparingly which is why, unlike with the points system listed above, the students will only pick a prize once a week (Charles & Barrs, 2014). The first disadvantage is during the second part of the system in which the students have to work together to earn a star for extra privileges. When a student does not do well, it impacts the whole class on some level which may cause tension among the students. Those students with lower scoring may be targeted which can cause issues within the classroom. The second disadvantage is that over time, the reward system may stop being as effective like with all other reward systems.
