I will sit in and observe the students in their classes--noting which students get positive/negative reinforcement. I will record the class dynamics between the students and their peers and the students and their teachers. I will look for inequalities of treatment in African American students versus Asian American students. I will look for inequalities of treatment in African American students versus Asian American students. I will ask teachers who they believe is doing well/not well in their classes in order to discern if there is any type of subconscious stereotyping going on. Over time, I will have collected enough information and built personal relationships with certain students in order to track their performance in school individually. This will provide a different perspective on how certain influences in the students’ lives such as stereotypes and perceptions affect their academic success. I’ll be exploring how their racial and ethnic backgrounds individually affect their studies and scholastic achievement. Then, I will try to make correlations and see if any of these factors could indicate difference in academic success for the students.
