At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

Envision a restless third grader sitting at her desk right after recess waiting for class to begin. However, in its place, students gazed at the television witnessing a moment in history they would never forget, on September 11, 2001. I remember vividly, hearing sirens blaring, and people screaming; seeing emergency services helping those wounded, families searching for their loves ones and devote citizens risking their lives just to help others. I wanted to comprehend and interpret these types of current events in our expeditiously changing and advancing world. This was the moment I began aspiring to dedicate my life to assist, serve and support my community and government at some capacity.…

My passion is learning; from the trivial to the essential. Luckily, I was able to get a head start on my education to quench my thirst for knowledge. I was fortunate enough to be of the elect few to attend the Mathematics and Science Academy (MSA), an early college program located at the University of Texas at Brownsville. MSA allowed me to graduate with my high school diploma and associate’s degree concurrently. Because of this advancement opportunity, I was able to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration at the young age of nineteen.…

As a child in elementary, I struggled grasping concepts and was borderline in my education. I doubted my ability to learn and show progress like my other classmates. In middle school, I worked hard every day using all the possible resources I could to make sure I was able to stay on track with my other classmates. I felt frustrated that I had to study more than average to grasp a concept that was so simple to others. I wanted to go over and beyond, so the summer before I started high school…
Career Development: Lifetime Employability At the ripe old age of nine, I started my very first job babysitting my neighbor’s three children. While this may not seem like a real job, by the time I was ten, I was babysitting three days after school, most Friday nights and usually at least one weekend day. I’m asking for more assistance from my family and friends to help me through my busy schedule alleviating some of the stress that comes along with a busy life. Since I love to learn I am already feeling more accomplished and positive in the choices I have made in returning to school after a 10 year break, relearning many things I haven’t used in the factory type setting I’m used to at work has brought about a much brighter outlook on my…
