Advancement Of Science Personal Statement

Decent Essays
I believe in applying knowledge to innovate and challenge the obstacles that are holding back the advancement of science. As such, a lab-based research thesis will give me the opportunity to critically think and apply what I learned so far academically and professionally to find solutions to the unanswered questions that lie at the scientific frontline. This experience will also allow me to further develop skills that will help me advance and excel towards my career in clinical research and medicine. Specifically, my interest in Dr. Matthew Holahan’s lab stems from my genuine interest in researching about concussions. My interest in concussion research started while preparing a literature review for NEUR3200 and later a poster presentation

This school year in my Anatomy and Physiology class, my classmate and I traveled to KU Medical Center in Kansas City to compete at the state Night @ the Lab Competition. It may seem like a lot, but after going around to the individuals in my school, 7-12th grade, there were 13 clinically diagnosed concussions.…

Over the raucous noise of people chatting and drinks being served in a small cafe, Ron Eschete, a jazz guitarist, swiftly strummed a solo to the song "How high the moon." He appeared to be in a state of meditation, with sweat dripping down his brow and eyes sealed shut. While in complete synchrony with the band behind him he spontaneously composed a beautiful melody filled with complex rhythms and syncopations. As a 17-year-old high school student who grew up playing classical piano and violin, I wondered: how is he able to create a piece like that out of thin air?
