For my observation a friend and I went out to eat this past weekend at a pretty small, but very nice, restaurant. The restaurant had an upstairs bar where we had the opportunity to go because it was first come first serve. We sat at a table right in front of the bar so that we could watch television as we ate. While we were eating, a fairly large group of couples came up to the bar and sat in front of us.…

It wasn’t until I was entering my freshman year of high school that a challenge became almost immediately life changing. Feeling as though I was climbing a mountain; not knowing if I was going to successfully make it to the top. Feeling like I was crossing a road; unknowing of what was going to be on the other side. Never had anything been so scary or so difficult to execute. I walked in to the school.…

In the beginning of second semester I was being introduced into Psychology 101 which I had no idea on what this course will be teaching. As I just know the word “PSY” it would be mentioning about physical or something to do with the body. Then, doing some research about what Psychology will be teaching about from YouTube. Also, reading some articles from this website on what they will be mentioning about what the body will reacts to some situations. In the past months as learning about the basic about Psychology 101 this would be an advantage in taking the next step of becoming a police officer which I could use it to think like a victim and mange an issue or situation into peace that everything could be resolved in a matter of a way.…

In order to graduate from the University of Mary with a psychology degree, students must take a Senior Capstone, during which a volunteer experience must be completed. Volunteer experience must be completed because one of the key elements of the human service field is social change, which can occur through volunteer work. Not only is volunteer work a key element of the human service field, it also allows students to give back to the community and to grow in a way that might be out of one’s comfort zone. While giving back to the community is enough reason alone to do volunteer work, there are also a few added bonuses like it allows the individual to gain experience in certain work and can help create networking opportunities. This paper will…

I recently lead and facilitate a 2-day Kaizen business process mapping event that focused on a software solution that is being implemented within our PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) system at our Cargo Handling System business unit. This activity is part of our ongoing efforts to develop a rigorous International Trade Compliance (ITC) program that detects, identifies, reports, corrects and prevents ITAR violations. The statistical distribution of AC2s and AC3s of this team falls below the typical standard deviation of one (20-point gap), with the entire team falling within a 16-point gap. One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…

When I was young and in grade school, I spent many of my summer Saturdays at Homewood at Crumland Farms, a retirement home in Frederick, Maryland. As a volunteer, I not only developed a fair understanding of what it meant to be psychologically and physically healthy, but I developed lasting relationships with the residents and their families as well. Through these relationships, I developed a strong interest and concern for the mental and emotional wellbeing of not only elderly individuals but all types of people as well, inspiring me to pursue psychology when I entered college years later. During my sophomore and junior years at Shepherd University, I began to establish myself as a psychology major.…

Individual Reflection Paper As humans, it is within our inborn nature to interact and cooperate with others. This is due to the fact that no one individual is perfect and capable in all ways. We are able to complement each other’s inadequacy through working as a group, hence this is why collective efforts often made things easier as compared to individual effort. While working in groups, we will experience changes in group dynamics and processes.…

There are many factors that overall contribute to my decision to take this course. First, a close friend of mine, who has previously taken this course, has shared with me many interesting knowledges that he had after taking this course. I was strongly inspired to take this course, because I believed that I would be able to learn and expose to various knowledge in the psychology field from this class as much as he did. Second, I realize that the way the course is designed and planned is convenient and flexible that almost any college student can take it outside of class without much time constraints. As the class is designed as a self-pace course, the progress of the course depends mostly on the students rather than the instructor like in most…
