Advanced Leader Program Analysis

Last summer I was a participant in the Advanced Leader program at YMCA Geneva Park. It was a one month stay at the park where a group of us took part in activities and programs that were developed to improve our leadership skills. These programs ranged from group activities to job shadowing at the park with the existing councillors. I went into this program relatively under developed in the areas of leadership that seem to be most important, however through that experience i have become a more well rounded person and have noticed significant improvements in multiple facets of my life. The most important aspect of anyone's personality is confidence and that is what i learned from this experience. Your confidence governs how you interact with others and how well you are received when expressing any ideas. …show more content…
I have noticed significant improvements in my public speaking abilities and my leadership skills, both of which I attribute to time in the Advanced Leader program. Confidence is the most important trait for a person in a leadership position because people feel more comfortable following someone that they trust and someone they think knows what they are doing. Since the summer I have tried to implement this strategy in all my interactions with people and it has rendered great results. Now that I know this, things that made me uneasy before now have virtually no effect on

In a community, being a leader is often difficult due to all the components and struggles that go into being one. A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Throughout my years, I have grown from being a primarily shy person to someone who is not afraid to step up and be the leader I am now. Today, I am able to consistently demonstrate what it is to be a leader in my daily life. Although coming into high school as a freshman was intimidating for me, I knew that in order to succeed, I needed to open up and try something new.…

My past leadership responsibilities have taught me that admitting my mistakes and showing humanity betters myself as well as those around me. My peers trust and have more faith in me because I have demonstrated humanity to them instead of acting as if I am perfect. This allows fellow students to approach me for advice when they have problems because they know that I am willing to help them as well as be their voice if they do not feel comfortable presenting the conflict. I should be chosen for Camp because my commitment, work ethic, and dedication to my school, community, and athletics have awarded and prepared me for this opportunity. I am a different type of leader because I am not an outgoing person, which is usually a characteristic…

In middle school, I found myself to be more quiet, shy, and less outspoken than my peers. I joined all the same clubs and had the same interests as my peers, such as student council and National Junior Honors Society, but my introverted personality kept me from exploring new leadership roles. As I finished middle school and began my high school career, I brought my introverted personality with me. As first semester progressed, I joined clubs in school that encouraged an open mind and voice, specifically Key Club International, the world's largest, student-led, community service organization. In Key Club, I met students with open minds and strong leadership qualities.…

My Personal Leadership Philosophy and How it has Developed As a leader I am very unique. I hold strong personal values in the areas of trust, respect, and responsibility. I believe that no one person should be responsible for someone else, but that we have to grow up and learn to take care of ourselves. Prior to this course, I perceived leaders as people who told a group of people what to do in order to accomplish a task. When I was put in a leadership position I was always effective, but I never really took the thoughts or feelings of others into consideration.…

In today’s society, strong leadership is necessary more so than ever before, especially in the younger generation. The ability to communicate with others effectively, coordinate resources and manpower, give guidance to those in need, and assisting in reaching a more beneficial outcome or future are all important tasks and qualities that a leader must have the capacity to do. Without effective leaders, the world would progress nowhere, and hoping for others to take such a position is unreliable. I would be the best representative to attend the 2017 Youth Leadership Conference as I already possess some leadership positions and qualities, but have room for improvement to ensure peak functionality and success. A program such as this would better…
