The role of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), in relation to administering immunizations within underserved populations, is vital. The APRN should be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the program, administering vaccinations, and informing their patients of the benefits of immunization. Perhaps a mobile clinic may be utilized and incentives may be offered for compliance. According to Bradford, Spain, Wright, and Gren, the main causes of poor immunization rates is missed opportunities by the provider and poor compliance with appointments (2015). The objectives should be to: Increase the vaccination rates of individuals within indigent populations (this may be measured by reviewing the amount of vaccinations provided…

As a future adult/gerontology nurse practitioner (AGNP), my role will be focusing on helping patients to manage chronic illnesses, illness prevention, and health promotion. In addition, The AGNP collaborate with other health care providers such as physicians and specialist to better manage and treat patient illness. The problem I am really interested in researching is catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in hospitalized patients. Working as a registered nurse in a medical/surgical unit I have been exposed to different patients with indwelling Foley catheters and other requiring placement of the Foley catheter for various reasons. However, research has found that many patients tend to be at risk of unnecessary catheterization and are also at a greater risk of both infectious and non-infectious complications from the procedure (Carter, Reitmeier, & Goodloe, 2014).…

Upon completion of the Master of Science Advance Practice Nursing Program, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) must go through the process of credentialing to provide services in patient care. Certification is different from credentialing, for instance, once the Nurse Practitioner finishes his/her program, they could obtain a certificate by taking the certification exam from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification (AANP). The credentialing process is when the healthcare provider is “given authority to provide patient care in the hospital setting” (Hittle, 2010). The hospital is responsible for conducting a review over the NP certification(s), education, skills, training, and licensure. “Credentialing is a system used by various organizations and agencies to ensure that their healthcare practitioners meet all necessary requirements and are appropriately qualified” (What Nurse Practitioners Need to Know About Credentialing,…

Since the nursing profession began there has been a see-saw effect with the acceptance from the physicians/providers on what procedures could and could not be done by nurses. With the increase in the number of advanced practice nursing it is imperative that we utilize their role to the fullest potential unless we are ready to go back in progress instead of forward. An example of this situation is the uproar with the push to allow advance practice nurses to provide advanced type care to the veterans. Implications for Advanced Nursing Practice APNs possess the ability to decrease the number of CHD deaths by advocating for health care policy changes and providing patient education. The APN’s role in health promotion remains paramount at the individual, community, state, and national levels. At the individual level, an APN may utilize the 5A’s model: ask, advise, agree, assist, arrange; which serves as a timely, evidenced-based practice to address behavioral health risks (USDHHS, 2012a). For CAD, the APN may utilize the model to address smoking cessation, weight management, and physical activity. An APN may also apply the medical model, which focuses on the pathophysiology of diseases, to identify risk factors for CAD (Cassidy et al., 2015).…

Advanced practice nurses serve a wide range of diverse populations all across the United States. No matter the environment advanced practice nurses serve in, patients obtain quality individualized care. Primary care environments are commonly the first place where rare diseases or conditions become identified through an array of testing from diagnostics to laboratory collections. As unexpected diseases continue to arise among patient populations, advanced practice nurses advocate for patients by relying on additional funding, resources, and additional support medically, clinical research, and federal funding. Through aggressive motivated professional commitments, and government funding, patients who face rare diseases then would no longer be…

Nurses are the largest group of professionals providing care to patients and have the greatest opportunities to implement evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes, as well as patient experience (Huber, 2014). I agree with your statement regarding delivering care centered around the patient. You also make an excellent point about patient choice. As consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the quality and safety of health care, they are making informed decisions regarding their health care needs (Huber, 2014). Nurse managers play a major role in educating and motivating staff to accomplish department and organizational goals (Huber, 2014).…
