Aduviri's Motivation Report

During March 2-4, I attended the OR-AMP/PNW-LSAMP Conference at Oregon State University. This conference works to motivate and encourage minority participation in the STEM fields. Amas Aduviri, the Director of SSS/CAMP at Oregon State University, gave a keynote about his life and the factors that have brought him where he is today. Aduviri was born in Bolivia with zero contact and communication from the advance world full of technology we live in today. He lived in the depths of the forests in Bolivia where technology or automobiles were only a mere concept of an idea in his head. After finding an old broken down radio, with the curiosity motivating him, Aduviri’s father managed to repair it. The only stations available from the little radio, were from 12 a.m. to about 6 a.m. Aduviri’s passion to learn about life happening beyond the forest of Bolivia he resided in, had him lying awake listening to a strange language with random Latin words incorporated in it. …show more content…
Aduviri’s drive to continue learning about different languages allowed him to travel to different countries to end up now at Oregon State University as the director of the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and the Director-Federal Programs. Although not in the STEM field, Amas Aduviri’s was chosen to speak in the Oregon Alliance for Minority Participation due to the many accomplishments he has done with the little resources available to him and because of his personal drive to better himself as a person.
