There should be a collaborative effort between the Adult Protective Service and the community to create a program where volunteers would go out into the community and educate the elderly of their rights. These meetings will be monthly at long-term care facilities, assisted living centers, doctors’ offices, etc. The goal will be to create a safe atmosphere where the elderly can ask questions and get clear answers. The potential barriers in carrying out this program would be the funding for training of the volunteers. It is possible that Adult Protective Service can create PowerPoint presentations and video to help with the instructions, but someone will have to coordinate these training sessions.
