Firstly, I worked in a residential care home where I quickly learned that caring for others and supporting vulnerable people is something I am passionate about and since then I have been keen to keep progressing in this area. It was also here where I learned the foundations of how to effectively care for people in a holistic manner by ensuring all their individual needs were met.

As this role is within the community I have learned the importance of time management and organisation in order to meet the demands of the fast paced role. I have also utilised my ability to care for a diverse social group whilst providing non-judgemental care. This I feel is an important skill to attain in any care setting to ensure the individual feels safe and at ease when care is being provided.
To prepare me for the demands of a nursing degree I successfully completed an access course which has provided me with the academic foundations and the confidence to go on to study at degree level.
Since studying the access course I have recently become a parent. Although I feel I was a caring person beforehand, I now feel I have the increased ability to show a greater depth of compassion and I realise the importance of being an effective advocate. My planning skills have also significantly improved and I am now able to think more critically and pre-empt possible risks. It is at this stage in my life that I feel I am now ready to deal with the emotional and physical demands of a nursing
