Tuesday
Today was a boring day. I have been conducting research for about a week now and have to put it all together for a presentation. The purpose the this research is to find out why the church’s population have been decreasing. When I walked in the doors of the church and sat down in The Family Life Center I knew that I had to get started. So I started going through the data, before I could even get comfortable in my seat one of the other employees came to me and asked for my help moving some chairs next door. I wanted to say no but I felt obligated to do it because the church opened a new spot just for me. So I went next door to help her move her chairs, but when I finished that she asked me to type her a letter for one of the

I told him that I had something to do, but he said don’t worry about it because he’s the one who gave the assignment. Of course, I can’t argue with that, he is the head boss. I went to help him set up the Grace group rooms, but it actually turned into a reflection session between us. We started talking about how the counseling rooms don’t really provide a confidential setting because you can hear everything through the door. From my time here at Grace, I have realized that females are generally the one who are yelling in the counseling session here at Grace. My office is just outside of Jeff’s office and I can never hear the men, but I can hear the females as if they were right next to me. I haven’t brought this issue up with my supervisor yet but I think he knows already. If he has been a counselor since 2008, surely he knows. When I looked up at the clock it was lunch time, Pastor Scott told me to go to lunch because Jeff’s counseling was going to carry over into the lunch break. I went to lunch and came back at 1 pm. I called and asked Jackie the receptionist at that time to let me in. I went upstairs to my desk and Jeff said that we had to go to the hospital because one of the members was recently admitted into the hospital. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to finish the PowerPoint that I haven’t even started yet. I knew that I wasn’t going to do it today as soon as he said that we were going to the hospital because the hospital that we had to go to is a hour away. So I packed up my things and put it in my

The book I read for my second report is called Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry by Doug Fields. I found this book to be very practical and encouraging. At multiple points throughout the book, Fields challenges the readers attitude. He forces the reader to re-evaluate their own situation. Fields portrays a humbleness, but I also found him straight forward, he cut to the point.…

The tears began to stream down his face, I immediately reply I sense you are hurting and not able to continue but when you ready we can come back to you (Reflecting Feelings). Another member speaks out Mrs. Wellonton, she speaks of a husband of 64 years of marriage, her question was she has fears of getting through each day without him, what will I do now? With a soft spoken voice reassuring her with the support of everyone, and positive goals will help each other (Supporting). The room becomes still and quiet, but the faces are loud with conversation, I ask the group would they participate in an activity, I have a pad and pen, I would like everyone to write down on the left side of the paper all the good things they remember about their spouse, and on the right side things that used to bother them about the spouse, in the next six weeks everyone will read out loud to the group what they wrote. So don’t rush through this, give it a lot of thought and daily jot down on the list (Goal Setting).…

What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. I always knew that his passion was a career in the military, but that was out of question in my book!…

    Support Group Observation

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

At our last class session, we decided to meet as a group on thursday to discuss our plans for the wooden compost bins, and to get information for how we take action on how we can make it possible for us to go through with our plans. I met Vanessa and Alyssa outside of Dudley Moorhead Hall, two hours before our class starts, and we began to find a place to sit down and talk about what we need to do. Finally, we went up to the second floor of Dudley Moorhead Hall, where the sociology office was located, and we asked the front desk about who can we talk to for going forward with our idea of the wooden compost bin. The front desk gave us a map, and pointed at the a building that we needed go to, if we wanted to talk to someone that can help us.…

“Set your affections on things above; love one another; commune at the table of our Lord in one spirit; worship in spirit and in truth; and if daily adoring, imploring, and living the divine Life, Truth, Love, thou shalt partake of the bread that cometh down from heaven, drink of the cup of salvation, and be baptized in Spirit,” wrote Mary Baker Eddy in 1898 (Christian Science Versus Pantheism). Mrs. Eddy (as she is colloquially referred to by her followers) was the woman who came to found the Christian Science religion, based on the metaphysical New Thought movement, in 1879 (Christian Science, “What is Christian Science?”). For individuals who are born into the modern Christian Science church, understanding the concept of “divinity” in the…

Being in a church setting, I did not want to break many norms, or be overly intolerable because I knew that many people would be very upset. From breaking the norms (sitting down while everyone else stood up to sing, texting, ect.) the people got upset, but not upset enough to leave the service. I think if I would have continuously been disruptive and annoying, people would have left, or told me to leave. I thought that it was very interesting that while they sing, they stand up, while at my church (Baptist) we don’t stand for every song we sing.…

I was preparing myself to go to university, I dressed up with a pair of jeans, nice shoes and a spensive buttoned down shirt. Coming from the first floor of my house I heard the tired voice of my housemaid: Mr. Louis, your breakfast is ready. I did not even answered and went downstairs, I was really hungry. I looked at what she had prepared for me and immediately started yelling: how is it possible that I clearly ask you for something and you can not follow a single order, please focus on what you do! I walked away, shut the door, grab the keys of my fancy car and went driving to University.…

I have had many experiences working with groups of people in my time as a camp counselor. An emergency situation that I automatically think of is a time last summer when I could not find one of my campers. The camp that I work at has two counselors in a cabin with eight to twelve kids in the cabin. The campers are at our camp for one week, arriving Sunday evening and leaving Friday morning. On Wednesday morning of the third, fourth, and fifth grade camp, we lined up for breakfast after our daily staff meeting.…

When I made the decision to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I dedicated my life to serving God and I realized just how much fulfillment I could gain from living an unselfish and balanced life. Ever since I was a little girl, I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. The Jehovah's Witnesses are a unique religious group with many elements that are somewhat atypical of a normal christian religion. One such element is the way one joins the group. Instead of the traditional baptism at birth or as soon as one is interested in the religion, Jehovah's Witnesses are baptized and become full members of the congregation only after associating for some time and proving that they truly want to spend their lives serving Jehovah God.…
