Peterson. Session 4. Characteristics and Learning Styles of Adult Learners
I’m seeking an education for personal goals, for personal advancement and to know God’s Word better and how to incorporate it into every area of study and life. In knowing my Personality type and my Learning Style I’m praying and expecting to be successful. I tested high in Naturalistic and Interpersonal Learning Styles (Howard Gardner). I would have to agree with the results of the Interpersonal, I also did another quiz on Learning Styles and I tested high in the Interpersonal. I learn better when interacting with others on a face to face basis. Does anyone else struggle with doing the Online class verses In-Seat? I’m better at experience based class-work verses lectures and testing. I believe if I have a good enough

I love what Smith (2011) said in the Courage and Calling book, “The fundamental features of vocational integrity are simple. They are captured in the two principles outlined in chapter two: know yourself and be true to who you are” (p.84). I feel like this class is a key tool in helping us all to be successful. Do you think this class is helpful by getting to know your strengths and weaknesses in Learning Styles and Personality? One reason I’m excited about going back to school is I really want to learn The Bible better, so most of my classes are subjects I’m happy to learn about and will be able to apply it to my life, and I hope to help others on the way. My main goal is to keep working towards my degree, and just see where God takes me after that. This is such a great opportunity for me to gain confidence in myself, and even though I did terrible in school years ago that I’m a new person with a new agenda and mission. I will be able to use many of my life experiences to help me keep moving forward. Sometimes I might need extra help and that is ok, I won’t be afraid to ask. Was anyone else afraid

Three learning theories that will be addressed in this discussion are as follows, self-directed and optimized, transformative, and critical reflection. Chen (2014) investigates “adult learners are self-directed and their learning is optimized when their experience is recognized and utilized in the learning process” (p. 407). Adult students are not 'clear slates' and their background turns into the medium through which substance is found out and in which to rethink new objectives to achieve (Chen, 2014). Self-directed is appropriate for an adult due to the connection that is made with their life experiences, the adult is able to plan and implement learning based upon their desire and initiation to learn. Self-directed is inappropriate for children because children rely upon the teacher as the caretaker to their education and implementation of it.…

Teaching Style of an ISFJ With each unique personality, comes a unique learning style. The way a person learns and interprets information impacts their ability to process knowledge and with that, what they’ve learned from it. By assessing one’s own personality type through the “Jung Myers Briggs Typology”, each individual is able to identify the scope of one’s character and further understand the nature of their behavior. By using the personality types described, someone is then able to analyze the five basic stimuli in Dunn and Dunn’s Learning Style that identifies elements affecting a person’s ability to learn and examine their own preferences. Using this information a person is able to recognize the most effective environment and style of…

After reading The Adult Learning Companion the two things that I have learned to be most valuable and effective for me going forward in my college career is time and studying. Time is important to me because, it can become challenging to find time to commit to doing school work after working 40 hours, taking kids to practice, going to sports game, cooking, cleaning and preparing for tomorrow’s work day. After all of this I just want to get in the bed to do it all again tomorrow therefore, time can definitely be a challenge. Going forwarded I will wake up an hour earlier to study before getting ready for work. The morning seems to be the best time for me to get some quiet and quality study time in plus I seem to be more focused.…

I have learned that my learning style is the Diverging style. This means that I am best at viewing concrete situations from multiple points of view. I prefer to observe while learning, rather than taking immediate action. I find thinking of new ideas and gathering information is most suitable for me. I also enjoy hearing other peoples perspectives, as I have an open mind and it allows for me to learn new things.…

Over the next eight weeks, I hope to strengthen my Biblical Worldview so that I can take what I have learned and share it with others, both non-believers and believers. I know that what I believe and why I believe it impacts everything that I do, so from this class I hope to gain more knowledge and wisdom in the Christian faith through the study of its doctrine. I was a bit apprehensive about taking this class but realize that this is the best way to study theology, in a community setting. As a father, I want to be able to help my children read the Word of God with context and hopefully this class will afford me with greater wisdom to do that. As a member of the military, I have personal hardships that I hope to handle better through the knowledge…

4.3 Analysis of applying adult learning principles Given that the group activity was conducted for adults, the planning, conceptualisation of the activity and mode of delivery was aligned to cater to the various adult learning principles and styles. Kolb’s (1984) propagates four modes of learning styles: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation. He posits to be effective, learners must possess the ability to relate to these four modes of learning (as cited in Jerling, 1996). It then also becomes imperative to design activity which suits learners from all four modes of learning. Given that my participants were adults who possessed varying levels of educational, cultural and religious backgrounds, I was able to leverage their rich and varied experience as the only resource to initiate the activity.…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…
