For this discussion, I chose the article, “Learning-Style Characteristics of Adult Learners” by Andrea Honigsfeld and Rita Dunn. There are many different learning styles mentioned in this article that affect college students today. The one thing that stood out to me the most was the Dunn and Dunn Learning Style Model. The most common learning styles include those of which affects a person’s environmental, emotional, sociological, physiologic, and the way they process material. When putting these things together you can determine what type of learner a person is and how well they will do when processing information (Dunn & Honigsfeld, 2006). A person’s environment and surroundings will either help them or hurt them with their learning. Every

I do not plan on transferring as most of my friends have, but I will to push myself to be proud of my decision I have made to stay at BC. I have gained, experience, knowledge, lost, and understand most things that I have been exposed to in my twenty years of life. One goal I have is pass the GKE (General Knowledge Exam). The first step would be to fully understand what the GKE is and what kind of tests I need to do to pass this exam. The second step would be to study as much as possible to ensure a passing score.…

Education “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” said Martin Luther King, Jr. But is intensive and critical thinking the true goal of education? There seems to be a hidden agenda that schools have to socialize students to prepare them for life as an adult.…

Kolb’s experiential learning theory has been widely influential in adult learning. The theory and associated instruments continue to be criticized, but rarely is the graphical model itself examined. This is significant because models can aid scientific understanding and progress, as well as theory development and research. Applying accepted modelling and categorization criteria to Kolb’s basic model reveals fundamental graphic syntax errors, a failure to meet modellers’ graphic sufficiency and simplification tests, categorization and definitional problems relating to learning activities and typologies, misconstrued bi-polarities and flawed logic.…

According to The Vark learning styles questionnaire the two learning styles that I learn best with best are aural and kinesthetic. Aural means I learn best when hearing the information spoken and by asking questions about the concept I am learning. The other way I learn best is being kinesthetic which means I use my five senses and hands on experiences to help me learn. The Aural side of me likes to remember stories, examples, and jokes, to be to relate them to the concept I am learning. I have found that I when attended class and really focus on what the instructor or professor is teaching I am able to grasp the concept that is being taught.…

Essay #5 The comparison between the fox and the hedgehog can be nuanced in their distinctions. The two animals represent knowing a little about everything as compared to knowing everything about one or few things respectively. About one third of the way through my second face-to-face interview with Diana Orozco , she said something that provided a window into her current state as an adult learner. She stated that “Time is precious and I feel like I don’t have a couple of hours a week to continually be in a class or a course were I’m not going to gain anything.” This statement wasn’t even a direct answer to the question at hand. It was a side comment, but it gave me insight to build Diana’s profile as an adult learner.…

In today's society learning styles are a lot more prevalent and held with a higher level of importance in all aspects of learning; as people have recognised everyone is different and have their own unique way of completing tasks. The two learning styles I will critically compare and evaluate whilst applying it to studying business are: The VAK learning style(Visual, Auditory and kinesthetic) by Nick Fleming and Honey and Mumford learning style based on the work of Kolb. VAK The VAK method is arguably the most used test to find out which learning style suits an individual best. Personally I have taken this test and I came out as a visual learner. I have found this beneficial when applied to business studies especially when revising for exams.…

Richard soon realized that he had many disadvantages due to the time period, which was the mid 1900’s, but gained social consciousness and was able to discover a few methods to overcome these setbacks. People that had been around richard were beginning to notice a difference in his grammar and his behavior. He started to become a little more conscious to this change knowing that if any white man or woman were to find out he had been reading or attempting to write that he would have been prosecuted. At a fixed mindset, richard had a desire to learn how to write and although he had the knowledge to do so he couldn’t find the willpower or faith in himself to put the thought into action. “I discovered that more than desire and feeling were necessary to write and I dropped the idea ( Wright 4 ).…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…

Another style aspect that is principal for L2 education is that of personality type, which consists of four strands: extraverted vs. introverted; intuitive-random vs. sensing-sequential; thinking vs. feeling; and closure-oriented/judging vs. open/perceiving. Personality type (often called psychological type) is a construct based on the work of psychologist Carl Jung. Ehrman and Oxford (1989, 1990) noted a number of significant relationships between personality type and L2 proficiency in native English speaking learners of foreign languages. For more on personality type in language learning, see Ehrman (1996) and (Oxford,1996). Extraverted vs. introverted.…
