The results indicated that social assertiveness expectancies moderated in relationship between paternal alcoholism and drinking behavior. The offspring of alcoholic fathers with high expectancies for increased social assertiveness were at risk for problematic drinking in males (McCauley Ohannessian & Hessell, 2004). Child will resort to heavy drinking because their father’s were heavy drinkers and alcohol has always be a huge influence in their life. When children see this heavy drinking style, they assume that it is normal especially since their parents are so dependent on alcohol. Children also turn to alcohol because they want to be socially accepted by either their father or others around them. They assume the only way to be socially assertive is to drink alcohol, like everyone
