Adult Convicted Sex Offender Every year there are an estimated 50,000 to a million reported cases regarding sexual abuse against children (Flowers, 2006). These cases include, according to Flowers (2006, p. 103), “child rape, child molestation, sexual perversions against children, and the sexual exploitation of children such as through child pornography and child sex rings”. Sometimes, sex offenders can be someone within the family, someone close to the family, or they can be someone who is a stranger and has sexual fixations on boys or girls (Flowers, 2006). This sexual abuse includes any sexual act regarding a child including pornography. A sex offender can be individuals in the family, those close to the family, and even individuals who are fixated with children sexually (Flowers, 2006). 37 year old Jared Fogle plead guilty of child pornography and paying to have sex with children who were under the legal age. Fogle became famous in 2000 when he became the spokesperson of Subway restaurants. His claim to fame came when he lost almost 250 pounds through exercise and eating Subway sandwiches (Phillip & Larimer, 2015). Since signing up as their spokesperson, Fogle had been used to promote health and healthy eating (McLaughlin, 2015). On July 7, 2015, law enforcement confiscated evidence to charge Fogle (McLaughlin, 2015). Fogle has been under FBI investigation for the last four years when ex-reporter Rochelle Herman-Walrond informed them of various remarks that Fogle had commented to her on underage children and sex. The FBI planted a wire on Herman-Walrond to gather evidence to use against Fogle (Gidman, 2015). Less than a month in court, Fogle plead guilty of the sex crimes he was being accused of (“From Pitchman to Prison,” 2015; Shenfeld, 2015). These crimes give Fogle anywhere from five to 12 ½ years in prison, $1.4 million in restitution to the victims, fines up to $500,000, treatment for being a sex addict, and Fogle has to register as a sex offender (“Ex-Subway Spokesman,” 2015; De Mar, 2015). There are numerous theories regarding sexual abuse; however, Fogle claimed that he was addicted to sex (Shenfeld, 2015). There are over 30 million who are sex addicts (Dryden-Edwards, 2015).
