‘Ad’s R us’ is a realistic representation of the future if the economy keeps developing at its current speed. This essay will explore peer pressure and the role of technology while exploring what technology and peer pressure can do to the young and vulnerable. The following paragraph will provide context by summarising the main aspects of both these themes.

‘Ads R Us’ is a book evolved around advertising. In this book an adolescent called Barrett has been raised in a cult called Simplicity far away from the Chattering World along with its advertising and its negative effects. Barrett’s Guardian passes away, therefore Barrett has to move in with his Aunt Kara and Uncle Adrian, along with his cousin Taylor. Aunt Kara takes advantage of this

All the cyber tales weren’t made up. People did sometimes get sick, and even die. But I worried about the stories about kids who’d fried the wiring in their brains, so they’d never be the same again. While technology, particularly the internet, has assisted many to overcome peer pressure by allowing individuals to speak their minds giving them the freedom to decline from participating in unwanted activities or situations, many claim social media aggravates peer pressure. The latest studies have shown that people, especially teenagers who frequently visit social media increase the likelihood of them participating in poor habits compared to people who do not own an account or visits the networking website. ‘Compared to teens who have not seen pictures on Facebook or other social networking site of kids getting drunk, passed out, or using drugs, teens who have seen such pictures are: four times likelier to have used marijuana; more than three times likelier to have used alcohol; and also three times likelier to have used
