The Adoration of Jenna Fox begins with two weeks after 17-year-old Jenna Fox wakes up from a year and a half long coma. She was in a coma because she was in a major car accident. She does not remember anything and her family has tapes for her to watch about her life to see if her memories will come back. She watches her tape called “Year Three/Jenna”. In this tape she learns that she used to live somewhere else besides her current residency in northern California. She then watches the tape of when she was in her early teens and notices that the person from year 3 and this person are the same person, it is Jenna. She gets lost in the woods behind her house and she is trying to find her way back. On the way, she sees a house and decides to go to it and ask how to get home. A peculiar man opens the door by the name of Mr. Bender. He asks her to come in and see his art collection. She does so and by the end of the encounter, she has met her first friend, Mr. Bender. Before she goes, Mr. Bender warns to not go near the white house at the end of the road. Jenna leaves and almost drowns in a pond in the woods. Lily saves Jenna, but she was never drowning, she was just laying down and screaming next to the pond. Jenna on imagined she was drowning, but it seemed so life-like. Claire finds out she left the house and yells at her. Jenna then remembers that she used to have two friends, Kara and Locke. She does not remember anything about them, but she knows they are important somehow. Jenna learns that her family is filthy rich and her father is the CEO of a company called “Fox BioSystems”. All this time, and Lily has been passive-aggressive the whole time toward Jenna. She wonders if Lily hates her. After a few days, Jenna goes to school and Dale warns her that Ethan cannot be trusted, but Dale is a jerk to everyone, so she ignores him. Jenna and Ethan go back to Jenna’s house in secret. Ethan reveals that he almost beat a person to death with a baseball bat, so Dale thinks he is dangerous even though Dale is not a nice guy either. They kiss and Lily kicks Ethan out of the house. The next day, Claire, Lily, and her father have left her home alone again. She goes upstairs to the secret computer room and tries to remove her computer but cuts herself on one of the brackets, after wiping away the blood, she sees that her under-skin is blue and gel-like. She waits for the family to come home and Jenna confronts them about why her under-skin is blue. Lily grabs some wine and they all sit at the table about what is going on. Jenna drinks a lot of wine, but is not tipsy at all. Her father then explains that she is made of Bio-Gel, a revolutionary invention that mimics human tissue and bone. She almost died in the accident, but her father saved her by making a new body for her and her consciousness was transferred into this new
