I see what you mean about how a counselor word a phrase is as important as important as what the counselor says. I agree with you, it’s not what you say, it’s how you said it. If the client is in a crisis due to a natural disaster, the counselor should not ask the client “what seems to be the issue with you today?” The counselor may be displayed as uncaring or in some other negative way. The two resources I would adopt to crisis counseling are reflecting skills and paraphrasing. By using reflecting skills, I’ll be able to develop a trust with the client quickly.
