Adoption: The Morality Of Abortion

Improved Essays
For several decades, the morality of getting an abortion has been questioned. It has been considered murder and in multiple states, the final decision is not up to the woman actually getting the abortion. Organizations, like Planned Parenthood, have gone under fire for performing abortions as many protesters believe it to be illegal and immoral. However, due to potential health risks, reasons behind the pregnancy or for the abortion, and a woman having the ability to make her own decisions about her body, performing an abortion should be legal throughout the country with no outside influence on the decision beyond those immediately involved. In 1973, during America’s feminist movement, the famous Roe v Wade case occurred. As a result of …show more content…
If a woman were to be raped and she fell pregnant, some states would not allow her to terminate the pregnancy. Rape is a very traumatic event both physically and mentally. Without the ability to get an abortion, the girl must now go through nine months of unwanted pregnancy, go through labor, and possibly eighteen years of childcare should they choose to keep the baby and not put it up for adoption. That is a lot to ask of someone who was put into the situation without their consent. Similarly, over seventy percent of pregnancies are aborted due to financial struggles. Going for prenatal appointments can cost around $2,000 throughout the pregnancy without any insurance. Actually delivering the baby can cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you don’t have any insurance to pay for part of that, that’s a lot of money coming out of pocket and you haven’t even bought the necessary formula, diapers, or clothes that a baby needs yet. While abortions shouldn’t be used as a casual form of birth control, they have the ability to keep someone’s life from changing dramatically. Getting pregnant at the very least will put someone’s life on hold for nine months and is very demanding with both time and …show more content…
While I do not wish to impose my beliefs on them, I do believe they shouldn’t push for abortions to be illegal with no exceptions. A decision so drastic should not be decided upon by people that will never come in contact with those who they affected by saying no. A girl under the age of eighteen shouldn’t be forced into carrying a child while she attempts to finish her education. A woman over the age of eighteen shouldn’t be forced into carrying a child either. Besides abstinence, no other forms of birth control are 100% effective. Surprise pregnancies do happen and that woman or family might already have four kids or maybe they simply don’t have the time to deal with a pregnancy or a young child. If someone doesn’t believe in abortions, then that’s their decision. But to take one’s own opinion and force it upon someone they don’t even know and greatly impact their life, that’s taking it too far. No one is forced into getting abortions so the ability to choose should remain to the female who fell pregnant. Not her doctor, not her grandmother, not a politician, not even a woman on the other side of the country or even the world should have the ability to control

Abortion is one of those topics you don’t just bring up at the dinner table. Abortion shouldn’t be done at free will. There should be boundaries set into place when dealing with this issue. If someone is dying while carrying the child they should have the option to abort. If a person was forced to have sex, without consent, and they got pregnant, they should be allowed to abort the baby if they choose too.…

I believe that a person should have to right to do with their body what they believe is right. I don’t think that it is fair for others to try to put their nose in something that is none of their business in the first place. The mother should be in charge of her own life and her own decisions. I think that people are too quick to pass judgment on others based on their own beliefs. For these reasons, I do not think that people should be able to control others decision on the matter of…

Rape is not necessarily the only instance where abortion is better for both beings. Take a drug addict for example, the woman may not be able to stop her addiction at the moment in time she is pregnant, and would be much safer for the embryo to be aborted. If she is forced into giving birth, the likelihood that the quality of life will be good for the child is slim to none. The child may face neglect and even gradual death rather than if the fetus was terminated at an appropriate time.…

To know someone would suffer their entire life if they are born and let them be born would possibly seem as cruel and inconsiderate or even heartless. Because they are within our moral community, we should not let them suffer a painful life. Because they are the child 's parents, they should have a say in whether or not the child is born and suffers it 's whole life, or gets aborted and never has to…

If a female decides that she does not want to carry a pregnancy to term, that is her prerogative. It is a decision that will solely affect her life, so she she be the one to make it. Some women are raped, resulting in a pregnancy. Pro-Life advocates argue that the resulted fetus should not be aborted because it is innocent and aborting it will be punishment, however, they do not put into consideration the women’s emotional and mental state. Another reason women get abortions, is if there is something medically wrong with the fetus.…

“American women who have had abortion — approximately 1.21 million women per year” (Biggs) have differing reasons on why they received an abortion. A study was done on 30 different U.S. facilities that perform abortions and over half of the patients, “identified relationship problems or not wanting to be single parents as their reason for seeking abortion” (The Role). From this study six different results seemed to be a repeating factor: “No, poor, or new relationship with partner… partner will not or cannot support the women to have a baby … partner is the “wrong guy” to have a baby with … partner does not want baby … partner is abusive … respondent wants to be married before having a child or does not want to be a single mom” (The Role).Women…

There are so many circumstantial situations, which should be acknowledged while making the choice whether one should proceed with terminating a pregnancy. Although it’s easy to make an opinion on how morally and ethically disgusting it is to murder just a child, there will never be proof that the fetus instead a woman’s body is a living being. Instead of judging these women for their choices, one should put themselves in their shoes and see just how much of an impact the choice of abortion or no abortion can make. All women deserve a second chance. It should be permitted to allow women to decide for themselves based on the impacts on themselves, their family and their unborn child, whether or not an abortion would be the best…

Abortion should be a part of a country’s contraception policy. People should plan their families and society must allow women to end unwanted pregnancies in order to deal with failures of birth control, cases of rape and cases of incest. Abortion should be legalized but discouraged. Legal, because it is a choice; discouraged because there are other more effective ways to prevent pregnancy than abortion. Abortion is all about allowing a woman to make her own decisions, in relation to her age, financial stability, relationship stability, and mental and physical capabilities.…
