“Time to leave for Omaha!” exclaimed my grandparents. I had mixed feelings about adopting. The idea of bringing in a kid that we don’t even know was a little bit scary, but on the other side we are helping a kid who wouldn’t have had a chance at having a good life. I could hardly hear her over the noise in the airport. Once we arrived at the airport, as we entered, I smelled a mix of every fast food restaurant you could think of. Once we found a spot to wait we sat there for a very long half an hour. During the long wait it was almost silent the whole time, out of nowhere I saw my parents coming down the hallway. Bereket was asleep. It looked like my parents were about fall sleep after the fourteen hour flight. I finally got to see him, I was very surprised how calm he was.
If this experience taught me anything it is that it is hard to take a kid you have never met into your house. This experience made me think about other families in the process of adopting and how stressful it can be sometimes. My parents must have thought adopting a child was a good idea, and now we are in the process of adopting another boy from China. I would have never guessed that our family would be adopting two
