Based on Blake and Moutons managerial leadership grid or behavioral approach he practiced a style of leadership we now know as authority-compliance this type of leadership relies on emphasis of tasks and productivity, with little to no care about people or humanity. His use for people reached no further than tools to complete a task, while completion of the task was crucial. The book defines this kind of leader as “controlling, demanding, and overpowering” (Northouse, 2004) which also describes Hitler. He exhibited empowerment by forcing almost a whole country to turn against an entire race at his will. The whole Nazi party was at his control or else which shows his need for control also. Unlike traits skills can vary over ones lifetime, an individual can strengthen or learn new traits when they wish. The book states that wrote the skills approach suggest that knowledge and abilities are needed for effect of leadership.’’ Is broken down into three skill categories technical, human, and conceptual skills. Human skills involves working with others well. The other skill needed is conceptual skills, which is basically the capability to work with ideas and overall concepts. Hitler threw around and worked with several ideas as a leader such as the holocaust and conquering other countries. He had the ability to take these ideas and conceptualize them in order to bring them to his followers in an appealing way. Although he lacked the ability to worry about others emotions and form relationships with his followers he had pronounced human skills. He lacked in the relationship aspect he was great at relating to people and what they wanted. For instance during Hitler’s rein he brought them out of economical downfall by working with other companies and people to accomplish this. Being the leader of his army his also work with them to plan and coordinate attacks to take over countries, which lead to many successful attempts. These two skills are needed to high ranked leader like Hitler with out them his effectiveness would have suffered
