Ethnocentrism is judging another culture based upon the values and standards set in one's own culture. Though we may choose to deny it all we want, all of us are ethnocentric in some way shape or form, minus the handful of people who are in fact not ethnocentric. It is incredible how this planet is consists of so many different people belonging to different races or ethnicities. Color, language, culture, appearance, values are all factors that are fed upon by ethnocentric cultures or individuals. Ethnicity is not the problem, It just means a group of people practicing the same culture. But what happens when ethnocentrism takes over that culture? As previously stated, Ethnocentrism is judging another culture based upon the values and standards set in one's own culture. One of the worst, most extreme, and most tragic examples of ethnocentrism was how Adolf Hitler treated the Jews and other communities during WW2. He believed that Jews, as well as people belonging to some other communities were all inferior to his ethnicity, and deserved to die. He had thousands upon thousands of innocent people murdered in concentration camps, all because they weren't of his ideal human or his pure race. According to Hitler his race was the most superior. Ethnocentrism is not always as extreme as Hitler during World War 2, history does tell us stories about how the concept and prejudice that rose from it, such as Rosa Parks and how she changed the lives of most African Americans in the United States.
