The main theme of this article is the creation of the “Hitler myth” and its spread throughout German society. This critique will discuss Kershaw’s argument and how effective it was. Kershaw argues that Hitler’s personality was not the key to his success and neither was his own personal Weltanschauung. He believes that it would be more accurate to study the popular image of Hitler, what the average German would have experienced.…

What's rarely touched upon in histories of WWII is how frightened the people in the Fuhrerbunker (Hitler's last hideout in the center of Berlin) were of what was going to happen to them. Discipline had broken down and most had realized that they were going to either be arrested and tortured or summarily executed by the Red Army when it finally took control city. Few of them still saw Hitler was as being the demigod that he was before and the thought had to be going through more than a few minds that a single bullet could have ended what had to be an agonizing wait for the end. If Hitler had not killed himself, it's probable that someone would have killed him in order to bring the entire mess to a conclusion.…

“Mengele had joined the Nazi Party in 1937, at the age of 26, while working under his mentor in Frankfurt. In 1938, he joined the SS and a reserve unit of the Wehrmacht. His unit was called up in 1940, and he seems to have served willingly, even volunteering for the Waffen-SS medical service. Between the fall of France and the invasion of the Soviet Union, Mengele practiced eugenics in Poland by evaluating Polish nationals for potential “Germanization,” or race-based citizenship in the Reich.
