While he spent a year in jail, he wrote a book called Mein Kampf (“My Struggle”) (biography.com). The book laid out his plans to change Germany into a society based on race (biography.com). It seemed he was even more powerful after he was released from jail. Officers attempted to assassinate Hitler twice; however, they failed (biography.com). He would always show up too late or too briefly and avoided a bombing two times (biography.com). The final, and almost successful, attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler occurred on July 20,1944 (biography.com). The weapon chosen was a briefcase bomb (biography.com). Von Stauffenberg, a German army officer, stepped outside to “make an important phone call” after placing the briefcase by Hitler’s feet (biography.com).
