Alois was a physically abusive and liberal father who resulted into whipping when needed. He would take Hitler and his older brother, Alois Jr., and regularly beat them. By the age of 11 Adolf became rebellious and refused to cry in front of his father so he wouldn't get the satisfaction, even after 32 lashes. This leads into how he became into a world leader because starting from a young age he was overpowered by his father and he couldn't control any of it so he decided to control his emotions. But also following the death of his younger brother Edmund in 1900 he became detached and showed interest in German nationalism and rejected all authority of Austria-Hungary. In 1913 Hitler moved to Munich. When World War 1 took off Hitler applied to serve in the German army, he was later accepted in August of 1914 but he was still an Austrian citizen. The Battle of Somme in 1916 was the first appearance of Hitler on the front lines. He was injured during battle was taken straight to Berlin to seek medical care.Later in life he was afflicted with hypertension, headaches, and heart trouble which was believed to have come from a mustard gas attack during war. Although he didn't spend most of his time up at the front lines he mainly was there as a dispatch runner. This job included delivering messages to and forth but far behind the from the line. Adolf was recognized for his bravery and received the Iron Cross in 1918 and the Black Wound Badge. This lead to in 1939 he was nominated to win the Nobel Peace
