Adolescents Should Not Make Their Own Decisions

Improved Essays
A decision is where a person thinks what he or she must do in a given situation. Decision making is a crucial skill and notably, adolescents tend to make unorthodox decisions. Adolescents shouldn’t make their own decisions because of how they behave when put in a given situation and they don't put much thought when deciding. Some, however, would argue that adolescents should make their own decisions because an adolescent's decision can be life changing.

Adolescents shouldn't make their own decisions because of how they behave when they are in a situation. It states in text 3, "Adolescents are less likely to: think before they act, pause to consider the potential consequences of their actions, modify their dangerous or inappropriate behaviors."

It states in (V.i.35-36), "No matter. Get thee gone, And hire those horses. I’ll be with thee straight." Upon hearing the news that his wife Juliet died, Romeo already makes a decision to get horses to meet his wife in her grave. This shows Romeo doesn't put much thought into his decision because Balthazar told him the news that his wife died and the fact that Oedipus made a response quickly, shows he didn't consider the aftermath of what will happen to him if he were to go to Juliet's grave. It also states in (V.i. 40-43), "I do remember an apothecary— And hereabouts he dwells—which late I noted In tattered weeds, with overwhelming brows, Culling of simples. Meager were his looks," Romeo is considering to go to a pharmacist to buy drugs to take with him to Juliet's grave. Romeo then, will use the drugs when meeting Juliet's grave and die with her because Juliet is everything to him and he would not be able to live without her love. This is a bad decision because Juliet isn't everything to him and his intention to be with her isn't love, but lust. Love is when you truly appreciate everything about the person while lust is when you like a person just for their looks. This is evident when Romeo first saw Juliet and said that she was beautiful. This is why adolescent shouldn't make their own …show more content…
It states in (I.v.??-??), "Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear." Romeo is describing how she is beautiful and how much she stands out. This is important because before Romeo met Juliet, he used like Rosalind but she didn't like Romeo but now, Romeo meets Juliet and they both fell in love. Even though this caused Romeo and Juliet to die, this also, caused peace between the Montague and Capulet because their hatred caused their family members to die and caused Romeo and Juliet to die. In the end, the families would then make a statue of Romeo and Juliet. While some would agree with this claim, adolescent shouldn't make their own decisions because their decisions can cost them everything. It states, "When the old man saw this he watched his moment, and as I passed he struck me from his carriage, full on the head with his two pointed goad. But he was pain in full and presently my stick had struck him backwards from the car and he rolled out of it. And then I killed

Many people may ask if adolescents have the right to make autonomous medical choices. In my point of view there are pros and cons to it. There are some choices that they can make and other choices that parents or guardians should make. Some adolescents do not like to get shots but there are some that are necessary to life. For an example at the age of sixteen teens are supposed to get a Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4).…

Why do humans classify life choices as unfair? In fact, on what grounds do humans classify anything as unfair; when certain tasks can only be achieved when one’s body is both physically and mentally prepared for them? Simple. Those who do classify them, classify them by age, of course. It is blatant to see that an infant cannot run a business chain by themselves and the collective working industry, as the older and wiser individuals do not force that task upon them.…

For simplicity in the debate today, I would like to give the following definitions from Oxford’s Advanced Learner’s dictionary: Adolescence is the process of developing from a child into an adult and the word ought is used to indicate a desirable or expected state. Blue Cross Blue Shield states that a medical necessity means: health care services that a physician, exercising prudent clinical judgement, would provide to a patient for the purpose of preventing, evaluating, diagnosing or treating an illness, injury or disease or its symptoms, and that are ; in accordance with generally accepted medical practice,…

As children are having new experiences everyday, a question forms on what influences parents have on their decisions. My research question is precisely that, with different parenting styles, is the child’s ability to make decision effectively changed with the amount or style of parent authority and discipline? I have been curious on why teenagers and even younger children make the decisions that they do. When a person is younger there seems to be less of an immediate impact associated with their decisions and the impact grows along with the person and their responsibilities. Are their decisions because they are rebelling or testing limits, or is it because they feel like it is the most logical choice?…
