Adnan's Typology

Improved Essays
Although some argue that Adnan is Sketchy, He is actually chill because he talks very smoothly and does not hesitate. When Adnan is questioned by police or Sarah about anything involving the murder he does not take time to answer the questions as if he were making up lies. Instead, he answers clearly and quickly to show that he knows what he is talking about. When Adnan was asked about how Hae impacted his religion and if that angered him or not he fluently answered, “I never felt as if, you know, man you know Hae is “tearing me away from my religion.” (“Episode 02: The” 7) He didn’t take a moment to come up with an answer that would justify him. He just said how he felt and he didn’t pause or say um at all. This proves that he is chill because

Andres Resendez’s work A Land So Strange interprets Cabeza de Vaca’s journey across America as “an extreme tale of survival” in which he was able to bridge two different worlds in order to survive. Resendez’s central argument is that Cabeza de Vaca transformed over his journey across America from a conquistador with conquering intentions to a medicine man that advocated for diplomacy and alliance with the Indians. Resendez’s interpretation of Cabeza de Vaca’s transformation and commitment to a more peaceful and kind conquest aligns with Cabeza de Vaca’s personal account at surface level, however; when Cabeza de Vaca’s intentions are evaluated from his personal account on what happened, it becomes evident that Resendez did not interpret Cabeza…

Mahan states that although he felt that the United States had a lack of preparation, he still believed that it should expand its influence because at the time, the link between shipping, markets, and power were a direct correlation. He states, "due to our natural advantages, and not to our intelligent preparations" that the United States was not prepared. It seemed as though Mahan felt that our navy did not reflect that of which powerful or strong enough to expand influence. Mahan implicated that without strong navies, United States could not have much power over shipping and exports, which was very relevant at the time. This is understood when Manhan states that there is an "importance for distant markets".…

The author’s purpose is to convince the audience that they need to accept who they are right now and have confidence, she wants them to know that they are good enough. The situation with the King of Ardalan seems to have some similitude to the Soviet Union. After World War II, the Soviet Union was forcibly converting the governments of surrounding countries into pro-communist establishments. This was a way to protect themselves from the United States’ strong anti-communist viewpoint. The kingdom of Ardalan has a similar setup, but with a different purpose. Ardalan has removed the rulers of Terrasen, another kingdom on Erilea, and oppressed the people in other kingdoms to secure the empire and rule of the King by setting up unopposable force, in a similar manner to that of the Soviets.…

About halfway through Ollie Pasnarov's We Were Indonesia, the iconoclastic documentarian interviews a sweaty, obsequious ad guy at an unnamed holotourism studio about their virtual Indonesian package, which allows users to visit a squeaky-clean facsimile of Indonesia from the comfort of their own home. Behind him, so brazen that it almost comes off as a joke, there's a poster cycling between images of mist-shrouded mountains, verdant rice fields, and an ocean sunset that reads: "See Java as it was meant to be…

No matter where you look in history, you will find a form of religion at play. In the case of ancient Egypt, religion has played a significant role in the cultural aspect of their day to day lives (Van de Mieroop). It influenced many different parts of their lives, from the way they viewed their king all the way up to the process of burial and mummification.…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

Sometimes I am curious about what the many different groups of minorities feel like in the United States. For example, their struggles, emotions, and actions they choose to make while trying to adjust to a new environment. Eric Liu’s memoir The Accidental Asian demonstrates just that. It depicts the double consciousness, social structures, instances of identity confusion, and the agency a second-generation Chinese American experiences.…

In “Interpreting the Sacred,” William E. Paden does not answer the what is religion question, in fact he does the opposite. Paden challenges the reader to ask why IS religion and to question how one can even define religion. It was an interesting read that discussed the difficulties in studying religion, and the challenges we all face with religion in our everyday lives. Paden poses the idea that our individual worldviews and lives shape religion, not just in the sense of how we ourselves interpret our own religions, but also how we define religion, culture, and society. Chapter 1 discusses the lens that we all view religion through.…
