I’d like to begin by saying Adnan shouldn’t be in prison… I mean, other than a missed call, and an idea for a motive, there really isn’t hard evidence to prove that Adnan committed the crime.
Let’s start with the ‘The Nisha Call’… one of the most important pieces of evidence. It not only proves that Adnan was with his phone around 3:32pm, it means that Adnan’s story could be a lie. Adnan states, during his interview, that he was without his phone and in the library, he lent his car to Jay with his phone still inside. Hae and Adnan’s relationship was meant to be kept a secret from family and friends (friends meaning anyone who would relay the news to his parents). Once the break up took place, the prosecutor brought up the idea that Adnan felt betrayed, all because of Adnan’s religion?
Adnan’s mother excused the court and jury of discrimination, because they are Muslim. During the trial on March 31, 1999, the ‘evidence’ or ‘argument’ made against Adnan was pulled from 2 other cases, nothing similar about them other than the religion, Muslim. They said, because of Adnan’s religion, he automatically had resources, people in the community to help him flee after he was released from custody. Their proof came from a trail on March 24, 1999. The prosecutor explained how Adnan “has an uncle living in Pakistan…”, and how he “drained blood from a cow in church, … he was pumped”. How is that helpful? How does that effect Adnan? This is stereotypical, plus Adnan was born in America. Yes he followed the Muslim rules, but by keeping his relationship from his parents, he doesn’t seem that
