Nursing is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States. I have wanted to be in the medical field for as long as I can remember. Not only because health care runs in my family, but also because I have always been fascinated with the idea of being pregnant and giving life to someone. I knew I wanted to be a part of that experience in some way. I have a big family with lots of children, so I have been around children my whole life. I have always been the one to babysit and that is kind of how I got into child care, I wanted to know how to properly take care of them if needed. When I started college I began to second guess the career I wanted to pursue and felt like I was wasting time and money by going to school and not even knowing what for. …show more content…
As soon as the baby came out they untangled the umbilical cord from around him and wiped some of the blood of his face (still attached to his mother). After they cleaned him up a little bit they used a bulb to get all of the excess liquid from his mouth so he could cry strongly. The doctors finally cut the umbilical cord between the two and placed the baby in the little bed to be cared for and stabilized. “He was premature so he needed a little more attention than most newborn babies.” is what the doctor told me. He was put in a little bag that covered from his shoulder to his feet, he was put into the bag to keep him warm. When he was all warmed up they took him out the bag and asked me to cut the umbilical cord. It was an awesome feeling to be there for such a memorable time in someone’s life. Which was one of the many reasons why I know for sure I want to become a registered neonatal nurse. This day was a very important day for me considering I was unsure that being a nurse was really for me.
