Admission Committee Analysis

In considering my lifetime goals, I have to discuss my past experiences in order for the Admission Committee to have insight into my journey to achieve academic excellence with the ultimate goal of becoming a part of the medical community. As far as I can remember, I always wanted to be part of the medical community; I believe that this quest started from my mother’s womb. The reason for this statement is because my mother experienced two great losses during her pregnancy with me; the loss of her sister who passed away after a short-term battle with cancer, and the loss of her best friend to a fatal gunshot wound due to a long-term battle with domestic violence. I genuinely believe I felt my mother’s heartache and pain within during these difficult moments in her life. Even though such heartache and pain plagued my mother, she tells me that I was the gift she needed to survive these moments. Unfortunately, one year after my birth; my grandmother passed away due to an unfortunate medical mishap.

My grandmother had a benign tumor the size of a pea on the right-side of her brain, and was advised that surgery was necessary to avoid potential growth; therefore, she elected to have the less invasive brain procedure using the Stereotactic Navigational System (SNS).
