When I was working as an administrative assistant in a busy office in Walnut Creek, California, I was offered a promotion to be the senior pastor’s administrative assistant and the office manager, overseeing 14 other women who also worked in the office. I immediately said, “No thank you!” The reasons for declining this position stemmed from lack of confidence and believing that I didn’t have the skill set required to fulfill the numerous tasks involved. Nor did I feel I had the leadership qualities that I had seen in the previous “Super Woman” in that position! I prayed. My husband prayed. My family prayed. The church leadership prayed. But I kept listening to the voice within me that said “You are inadequate.”
The senior pastor persisted and finally persuaded me to consider the role as a temporary one, for a minimal period of time until he could permanently fill the position. I finally consented, attempting to release my fears and to trust the Almighty God whom I testified to believing in.

My constant companion was my faithful Lord and His reminder to me: “My strength is made perfect in weakness!” 2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV
The result of this surrender, trust and daily reliance on the Lord was seeing that HIS STRENGTH truly was made perfect in my weakness. Every day was a walk of faith. Every day I saw him take over. Every day that I went home after my time at the office, I had astonishment and praise on my lips and in my

Summary In their book "Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome" authors Kent and Barbara Hughes offer insight to anyone currently involves with or contemplating involvement with church ministry. In the introduction, the husband and wife team tell a story of a pastor that gave into failure and left full-time ministry (Hughes 1987, 9-13). This confusion of success and failure in regards to ministry effects many every day. The team explains that they too almost fell victim to overwhelming feelings of failure in their ministry and their subsequent conquering of these feelings through the truth in God 's word.…

The first few years of ministry was a lot of "it seemed like a good idea at the time" experiences strung together. Failure isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. After a series of challenges that could discourage the most optimistic of leaders, I once turned to Holly and said, “If I wasn’t the pastor of this church, I would go here.” “Everything rises and falls on leadership,” I was reminded in a quote by John Maxwell. “Oh, Great,” I…

In my reading of Business leadership: A Jossey-Bass reader, I learned a new concept. Leadership and management are different (Kotter, 2008). The opening sentence of chapter one hit me like a ton of bricks. I worked for a Fortune 500 Company in various capacities from the assembly line to lower management before I accepted God’s call into ministry. I have read many books on leadership, yet, for reasons unknown to me, the revelation of leadership and management being two differing activities never penetrated my psyche.…

He is the only person that my family goes to when they have questions about Hindu religion or any of the cultures festivals. In India, elders such as grandparents are respected more than anything else.…

It is the strength of God that help to carry on and move forward. Prayer is powerful. God does not always answer us when we want Him to, but He does hear us and in His time He will move on what we ask Him for. Personally, my decisions have not always been led by God, but I do frequently ask Him for guidance and for His advice. When I do something that is not of his liking, I talk to God about it and ask Him to help me through the situation and ask for forgiveness.…

My brother you have answered the call to a vocation described in 1Timothy 3:1 as “good.” Paul says, “If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desires a good work.” The NASB describes it as a fine work. The ESV describes it as a noble task. This work to which you have been called must not to be taken lightly, for you will be will be judged by God with greater strictness.…

As I walked into my interview with Dr. Lisa Calvano, I did not have the impression that research took in any part of business management. After having a meeting with her, I learned exactly how important research is to the discipline. Research in business management is a systematic investigation that helps to answer complications within businesses. Research in the field contributes to management understanding and knowledge. Information from research is usually produced by the classical methods: statistical data and analysis, interview data, and survey data, like stock prices.…
