Adler In The Book Night By Elie Wiesel

It all started simply with the Germans coming up with new laws and ways to limit the Jews to any freedom they had before. For example, telling the Jewish children they were no longer allowed to go to school and shutting down all Jewish businesses. When Adler first heard of the Nazis coming to Czechoslovakia to take the Jews away, he ran away to hide in the mountains. Soon later, he was walking around and found his father that had run away to hide from Hitler. This surprises me because in the book ‘Night’ all the jews there did not believe of this talk. They were not scared and they definitely did not try to run away. They just kind had the “it’s not happening to me so why should I care?” kind of attitude. However, Adler did run away along with his father and Hitler did find them. …show more content…
Therefore, Adler and his father reluctantly surrendered. They took the two males to a ghetto where they slept in a barn, while some Jews slept in a house. What Adler means when he says they slept in a barn is a one horse barn, where his whole family stayed. He did not describe the situation as anything too terrible. Yet while reading Elie Wiesel's book ‘Night’ I believe he thought the situation was much worse. He explained how he was fearful for the future and he was receiving information of having to leave the ghetto which made him even more fearful. Adler did not describe his exposure of the ghetto being too nerve-racking or fearsome. I believe that it is possible that Adler had more character that Wiesel and was able to process stress better than Wiesel which is why when Adler was giving his testimony, he did not describe his encounter as harsh as

The chapter begins with the family of Eliezer heading towards an "unknown location." Throughout this journey, the protagonist becomes more aware of this situation and evolves into a different person altogether. I think from the moment Eliezer's family had been on that train; there has been a significant change in the outlook for the future of their family. Eliezer sort of went from believing everything, to being more ignorant and hopeless about his situation. As stated, everyone ignored Ms. Schäcther who repeatedly said something related to a fire around them, "The fire over there!"…

Throughout Night, Wiesel’s humanity is constantly being chipped away and reduced by the Nazis’ treatment. As Wiesel enters Auschwitz, his humanity is considerably changed. Him and the other Jews are herded like cattle, shaved, stripped down, disinfected and put in bare living conditions (Wiesel 35, 36). This treatment batters Wiesel’s humanity down close to nothing; as if he were a wild animal. He is fed little food and has to scrounge what he can from around the camp, much like a mouse would.…

This can be seen in his Memoir Night where he writes, “Babies were thrown into the air and the machine gunners used them as targets”(Wiesel 4). After reading the book Night, one might find their selves pondering how Eliezer was able to survive in such horrendous conditions, while others were inhumanly executed. The immense about of suffering these innocent people endured is unimaginable; they were swept from their normal lives, not knowing what their destiny holds. It is quite depressing to hear about families being separated, unaware that they will never see their loved ones again.
