This also helps develop friendships for new students, since all the students share the nervousness and uncertainty that comes with beginning university and can help each other out of the generalized confusion. This can also be bolstered by the residences, where many out of town students stay, through their provision of social events aimed at introducing students to each other. This will help distract the students from the what they have lost by no longer being at home, and provide friendships that they can rely on if they begin to feel homesick. It is also recommended that students be encouraged to become involved in University life from numerous angles, including sport, societies and student government.
