Introduction
This is my first journal entry and it will be about how well I am adjusting to life in terms of well-being, balancing your priorities, developing my identity, and coping with stress with what I have learned thus far in my psychology course.

For me I’m trying to learn how to truly live and enjoy my life, not to just exist. I am learning to be happy with where I am, not compare my life to someone else’s life. I had a habit of comparing and wondering why my life was the way it was even though I felt like I did everything right; there was still things in my life that I felt like were not where I wanted them to be. I am learning to deal and love the life that I have which in term will lead to my all around happiness. In my learning, people reach their peak happiness when they surround themselves with genuinely happy people as well as when engaging in

I sometimes go through life feeling like nothing is going right for me and my life is always in a frenzy. In my hardest times I try to find the good in every situation, pray about things asking for guidance, and speak with my mother as well because I value her opinion and insight. Coping is easier when you know that there is some out there that can relate to what you are going through or just to have someone out there that will listen and not judge. I try to steer clear of negative interactions, negative people, or things that may increase my stress levels; at least until I am at a point to where what someone else may say will bother me. My children have consistently played as a positive outlet for me as well. So in the midst of it all, to engage in activities with them can make any situation seem mediocre or less

Never Give Up I have faced much adversity in my life. The one time in my life where I feel I have faced the most adversity, was in basketball. Throughout my life I have loved playing basketball, but in ninth through eleventh grade in high school I started to hate it, because of all the adversity I faced. There were many factors that were tied up into all of this too. One factor was that I use to be so nervous playing, that it affected my game in a negative way.…

In my life, I have been blessed to be healthy, loved, and cared for. I do not consider myself to be in a position to say I have overcome adversity when there are many people that truly have. Nevertheless, I have overcome myself and realized who I am. Growing up, I have been surrounded by two cultures: Puerto Rican and American, my mother being Puerto Rican and my father being Scottish-Irish-American. Yet, I felt ashamed of my Hispanic culture, mostly because people never considered me as Puerto Rican by my physical appearance.…

I could feel my ears get warm. My face burned, I cupped my hands to try and relax my body, since it was so rigid from the words that froze me to my chair. Had my teacher really just told me I wasn't going to be able to go to college because I was an Immigrant? “ I don’t mean it in the wrong way Daisy, but to get into college that’s a really big step to do. I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

Going back over my fifth grade notebooks has not once failed to make me laugh and cringe at my boy troubles and lists of cute boys in my class. I love words. I love reading them, writing them and interpreting them. Through all phases of life, I had a usual nature to try and write my feelings down and call it art, even if it were scribbles on a Post-It note. Same goes for the song stanzas I wrote in seventh grade that were really loosely based on a Taylor Swift song and are still relatable today.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…
