Have you ever noticed that people who play video games frequently tend to be aggressive in their behavior? Video games have become increasingly popular in this technological world. However, these video games contain massive amounts of violence resulting in aggressive behavior and addiction. It has been scientifically proven that younger kids who play violent video games express more aggressive behavior than the kids who don’t play those games. Video games cause aggression/addiction in the younger generation, influence the player’s minds, and all of these things can be prevented. As Finley states, “Playing these games causes the brain to produce intense feelings of satisfaction and reward that are extremely motivating.” The crave for these feelings, the addiction begins to take place. As stated in the USA Today Magazine, “‘Playing video games could be compared to smoking cigarettes. A single cigarette won 't cause lung cancer, but smoking over weeks or months or years greatly increases the risk. In the same way, repeated exposure to violent video games may have a cumulative effect on aggression.’” The more we are expressed to violence in video games, the more likely our behaviors are to be affected by the games. Even though videos games can be violent, there are other alternatives. As Lee states, “ But no video game, no matter how innocuous, can compare with the positive benefits of literature, art, sport, or social interaction and the unhappy truth is that all too often, long hours of play logged in front of a video screen become a substitute for engaging in any of these other, more meaningful human pursuits.” Even though video games can be fun there is nothing better than the benefits of reading, exercising and socializing with others. Playing video games does more bad than good. “In a perfect world, video games would only be used for positive educational and social ends,” stated by Lee shows how although video games are violent and cause aggression, if used for the right thing, they can actually be beneficial to our society and our world. There’s always some other activity that can be done rather than constantly playing violent video games. As Anderson states, “Although there is a national rating-system in place to help prevent children from gaining access to games with mature content, most retailers do not have a policy of checking ID or otherwise controlling the sales of these games to minors.” The easy access of these violent games contribute to an increasing number of aggressive adolescents.
