by authors, who are most definitely not young adults, and social change in society.
Sung by Lee Hi, Rose is about how love is like a rose. It sounds cheesy but it is actually true, in a sense. The petals of a rose represent the happiness and beauty of love, it is also the first thing a person sees when they come across a rose. However, the thorns represent pain and the darker side of love. The thorns are overlooked in favor of the petals, but in order to have a healthy love, both the petals and thorns must be accepted. As Lee says, love should not be looked at with a light glance, because messing up in love has caused more than enough trouble. Love has caused the death of many.

A bit drastic since they group homosexuality with incest, sexual abuse, and one-night stands as off limits since homosexuality has nothing to do with the darker and "immoral" aspect of society. It seems that the majority of China deems the love between two men or women damaging to the country's image. Even so, who are these people to ban love? Love is love, regardless of what form it comes in. Certainly, love between two people should not restrained by mere social constructs such as gender and no one has the authority to impose their opinions on another. Should it not be common sense that no one has the right to put their nose into someone else's business and dictate it as though that person's life was their own? Parents aren't excused from this. Sure, looking out for a child is something a parent would do, but they cannot tell who their child can and cannot love based on gender. It is the parents' responsibility to care for their child and love them, not to create self-loathing and damage their …show more content…
After all, who needs mental stability and happiness when I can have wonderfully high grades so my mother could brag about my intelligence and compare me to my dear cousins as though I was nothing more than a show dog instead of a sentient human being that came out of her womb. She did not hesitate to threaten me with decapitation in sixth grade if I had anything lower than an "A" in math so perhaps I am overestimating my worth in her eyes. If anything, the word love was a terrifyingly close synonym to expectation and I felt that if I could not meet or surpass the expectations my family had for me, I did not truly deserve "love." However, I no longer care about gaining their love, I would rather find people who love me without a price.
Love is a complex subject that can motivate the noblest and the cruelest of deeds with its mere presence. Love is a neutral force that must be influenced, whether negatively or positively. We need to teach others about love and how to shape it in our lives. We need to learn more about love and recognize that it is as unique as humanity. No one thinks of love the same way, for all the life experiences we each live mold how we define certain elements prominent in our lives. Even so, love is the powerful superglue that unifies us

Robertson Davies explores in Fifth Business the conflict between love of others and love of ourselves. The characters in the novel are not attached to only one person in physically or spiritually, because they only love themselves and just seek for their own pleasures. Ironically, people want to love and also want freedom. Human’s behaviors are in order to satisfy their own desires, that shows love is selfish. However, passion left unchecked festers like a sore. “We may give our human loves the unconditional allegiance which we owe only to God.…

In June 2016, a man shot 49 people at a gay nightclub. The terror attack had such a horrific outcome that at the time it was the worst attack on the United States since 9/11, both attacks rooted in hatred. In the literary works, Symposium by Plato and Metamorphoses by Ovid, the narrators contemplate whether love acts as the disease or remedy for society and the individual. These themes still have an importance in today's society, as acts of hatred still permeate through the fabric of humanity tearing apart any hope for universal peace and happiness. By studying these ancient texts, a fuller understanding of love and how to apply it to modern life can aid in eradicating bigger societal issues, such as the bigotry that caused the mass shooting…
