For example, when students graduate college and start their first job they will not be able to depend on their own mind to deal with stressful situations. Because Adderall gives students the power to complete a task, students will want to use this drug as a way to do their work for them mentally. Adderall is as bad as drinking alcohol for an escape when emotionally unstable because the human body will start to depend and ask for Adderall when a stressful stimulant is encountered. Since the students who use the stimulant do not have ADHD the “misuse of [Adderall] over time can result in severe psychological or physical dependence.” (Chalk Talks- Adderall Abuse: Regulating the Academic Steroid) Even if the student/user of this drug is doing work physically with their own body, their mind will always have help from the chemicals that block out the distraction. Once the body is used to this, the person will become mentally addicted to the drug and they will reach out for the drug when they think they need it. Therefore, when they become dependent, they will not be able to solve their own on stressful experiences. If a college student is caught taking Adderall to study “these stimulants also carries with it a mandatory five-year federal sentence.” (“Adderall is Definitely Not a Drug”: Justifications for the Illegal Use of ADHD Stimulants) If a student is caught taking or selling Adderall illegally they can end up in jail or having to pay a hefty fine. Adderall can affect personal records. In this case, using prescription drugs illegally can give students consequences that can cause them to deal with the court system and lead them into unfavorable

Many students mindlessly discuss Adderall and Ritalin, “I took Adderall at 8 pm, it’s 6:30 am and I have hardly blinked” (para. 9).…

When an individual does drugs, I learned that our brain does not work correctly together. Our brain interprets the drugs that an individual ingests as pleasurable, so dopamine is released. This makes the human brain assume that drugs are needed for survival. Drugs change the chemistry of the brain and change what our brains perceives as our basic hierarchy of needs. After one becomes addicted to drugs their primary survival priority is drugs, followed by what non- addicted brains consider priorities, food, sex and…

For Marcella, the nature and severity of her use is arguable. While she reports little use, the severity of the effects of her recent use are beyond what a recreational user would display. The negative consequences of her use, in this case, far outweigh the frequency of her substance use. Her motivation for change appears to be low; there is no indication that she is scared by her attempt, is remorseful for the attempt, nor is there any evidence she thinks she has an issue with substance use. Marcella’s strengths and resources are limited as well.…

Higgins points out that “stimulants could alter the structure and function of the brain in ways that may depress mood, boost anxiety and, contrary to their short-term effects, lead to cognitive deficits” (Higgins). This observation makes it clear that the detrimental effects of ADHD medications are long-term, while the beneficial counterparts are only short-term. Higgins also brings up a study led by psychologist Stacy A. Castner documenting “long-lasting behavioral oddities, such as hallucinations, and cognitive impairment …” (Higgins). This supports an idea from Walters that states “Stimulant medications may cause … confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, delusions …” Some other side effects include increased heart rate and blood pressure and in severe cases, sudden death…
