Adderall Aid Advantages

Doctors should not be able to prescribe as Adderall as a study aid.
There is an erroneous belief that stimulants such as Adderall has no harmful physical side effects. “As more students are introduced to these stimulants and acknowledged perceived benefits, the harmful and additive attributes may go unnoticed compared to the benefits students possibly experience” Varga 294). Millions of American college students are perceived to believe that using Adderall as a study aid will improve concentration and lead to better grades. This belief is also not taking into consideration the negative effects that follow from abusing Adderall.
According to The New England Journal of Medicine, teenagers view stimulants like Adderall as a “safe brain steroid”

Adderall aids diagnosed patients with the ability to calm down and focus. Those who do not have ADHD, take Adderall with the intent of assisting in attentiveness and concentration in order to improve academic performance. According to Dr. Richard Kadison, “five to eight percent of college students genuinely suffer from ADHD. Recent studies, however, have shown that up to 35 percent of college students who have not been diagnosed are abusing stimulants in order to study” (Rasminsky 3). Adderall can negatively impact a student physically and mentally along with having short term as well as long term effects. Short term side effects of those who abuse Adderall can experience gastrointestinal problems, blurred vision, increased body temperature, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, reduced circulation, irritability, loss of appetite, and insomnia. As student’s usage of Adderall increases and becomes excessive, long term effects become almost inevitable and soon become addictive. Long-term and excessive use of Adderall may result in hallucinations, psychotic episodes, cardiac arrest, a comatose state, or even death. Intense mood changes and …show more content…
