Add Title Later In Arthur Miller’s famous play, The Crucible, there are many memorable characters. The play is set in Salem, Massachusetts in the spring of 1692. Before the play begins John Proctor has an affair with Abigail Williams, the niece of the town’s minister Reverend Hale. Shortly after, Reverend Hale sees Abigail and some other girls dancing around a pot in the woods. There was a frog in the pot and some of the girls were naked. Abigail claims that she was trying to practice witchcraft to get John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth killed.
