Adaptive Leader Analysis: Saladin – Presentation Outline
1.) Saladin was a hero of Islam, due to his impeccable abilities to unite the Muslim people and his prowess in the military environment. He earns this title as recognition for his devotion to his faith and to his people. He had also earned a reputation as a fair and just opponent to his enemies, such is because of his generosity and his civility.
Saladin also campaigned from the North African coast, in Egypt, Arabia, Syria, and Mesopotamia, gaining support for the jihad on the Kingdom of Jerusalem. He was also known on both sides of his conflicts for his great qualities, the crusaders respected him for his chivalry.

(How he treated his enemies) Militarily, he chose to conquer smaller Christian centers on the way to Jerusalem, avoiding strenuous sieges, and offering noble surrenders, resulting in far less blood being spilled from battle. He also utilized the desert to dehydrate crusaders, crushing them under the might of his cavalry.
The picture shows the end of the Battle of Hattin, where the European crusaders led an offensive against Saladin as he sieged the city of Tiberias. The crusaders were outnumbered, weakened by the desert, and unable to inflict serious damage to Saladin’s forces. In the end, Saladin spared most Christian lords and treated prisoners well, but he had executed nearly every captured Templar. The very next day, Saladin marched onward to Jerusalem.

He built and staffed schools, constructed a hospital that offered assistance to the sick, both physically and mentally, and while also providing free food, and he also created the impenetrable citadel to provide ultimate security for the city.
10.) (Uniting opposing forces) In order to defeat the European crusaders, Saladin brought opposing Muslims together, unifying different groups for a common goal. He also fought alongside Eastern Christians who despised the Western Christians of Europe and the papacy.
11.) (Leadership style) Saladin was a leader that gave his people a high priority, as well as placing his goals in regards to religious fervor along the same level of prioritization.
12.) (Unity) He gave his people hope and motivation to come together for a common goal, and by creating bonds between opposing forces for the greater good he was able to succeed in his unification of Muslims.
